Summary: During Maths, Seto attempts the writing of a declaration of love.
Why: I liked this mostly for the perspective on Kaiba. I like the way it shows him fitting into his classes, not the way a normal student would, but in a way that is distincty Seto Kaiba. I also really liked the look at the relationship between Kaiba and Jou. It's understated, but powerful in a way that more dramatic fics often aren't.

Summary: Jounouchi finds himself in the backseat of Kaiba's limo - twice. The first ride leads to an embarrassing arrest, and the second... Well, it just leads to Kaiba.
Why: OK, so I'll admit that part of the appeal of Jou and Kaiba is their immature bickering. Despite that, sometimes it's nice to see them acting a little more mature. This fic does that, showing the two of them as older and more experienced, without ever taking away the snark of their relationship. And if that isn't enough to make you laugh, I bet that the situation that they find themselves in to start the story will. ^-^

Summary: Joey is late, Kaiba is weird and the pizza-delivery guy is held up by bodyguards. Just another day in the life.
Why: The author writes with a great Joey voice here, and does a really great job of handling the ins and outs that a relationship between Joey and Kaiba would definitely have. I was snickering the entire time I was reading this.

Summary: According to popular belief, going more than three days without sleep means you're legally insane. Mokuba's kidnapped, Kaiba's losing it, and Yugi and his deck are just trying to help...
Why: I love X-parrot's Kaiba fics. She has a really great grasp on his character and she always makes me think. She also does a great job with the relationship between Mokuba and Kaiba. This story in particular is one of my favorites of hers. I love the balance of humor and drama, and the pacing kept me interested the entire time.

Summary: The predicament of a Domino City citizen forces Seto to take a long, hard, unflinching look at the damage his company causes.
Why: This sticks in my mind because it's quite different from anything else I've ever read about Kaiba. Instead of focusing on the Kaiba we see in duels, or the hypothetical Kaiba who has a private life and relationships, this is Kaiba the businessman. The story deals with some of the consequences of the things we see Kaiba doing during the series: turning Domino City upside down for the tournaments, flying his helicopter around, and generally making a nuisance of himself to the community at large. It does involve a female OC, but I didn't find her in the least annoying, and I enjoyed the outside look at Kaiba that she was able to give. This isn't an action-packed story, but if you're interested in Kaiba Seto as a character, it's certainly worth checking out.

Summary: Concerning the formation of one Kaiba Seto.
Why: I'm not generally a fan of so-called 2nd person, but this story works beautifully. I love the way that the author used a game framework in order to really get at Kaiba's personality and the things that motivate him, as well as the deadly cycle that he ends up trapped in. This has absolutely been incorporated into the way that I think about Kaiba.

Summary: An experiment gone awry sends Kaiba through time to unexpected, unacceptable future.
Why: X-parrot writes some really great Kaiba brothers gen. In this case, X-parrot comes up with an interesting and plausible idea for time travel and then handles the fallout beautifully. Instead of the meaningless drama that this could have degenerated into, there's a fast-moving plot, great Kaiba characterization, and a couple surprises along the way. It's stories like this that remind me why I keep reading Yugioh fanfiction.

Summary: Love letters are useless, and Jounouchi knows it. So why would he bother trying to write one?
Why: For a talented duelist, Jou tends to get the short end of the stick an awful lot when people are writing intelligent characters. This story, I'm happy to say, is not one that makes this mistake. I love the idea of this story and the author's characterization of Jou. I also really enjoyed the way that she pulled off the entire story, not making either Kaiba or Jou out of character, but still managing to push them together. The author really did a great job with both the characters and the pairing. And that title! Who could resist the lure of that?

Summary: Mai Kujaku is faced with one of her oddest tasks yet--extricating Jounouchi, whom she hadn't seen in over a year, from a one-way crush on a cranky CEO, whom he still hates despite all uncontrolled lusting. Chaos ensues and unrequited lub abounds.
Why: I kind of read this story looking for Kaiba/Jou but suspecting that things would end up in a Jou/Mai direction, a pairing which I've never had any particular interest in. Still, the summary gave me a sliver of hope, and that was enough to get me started. To get me finished...Well, the story itself did the job for me, despite the fact that my suspicions were eventually came true.

Fate VII has a way of writing. Not only are her stories easy to read and engrossing, they tend to walk that fine line between crack and serious with just enough of both to make me want to keep reading. It's a balance that I love and that I would be very happy to find more of. It's probably because of that balance that I'm reccing this story and will rec at least one more story by her in the future. Long story short, I really enjoyed this story. I hope that you will too.
