Spoilers for: Serenity

Summary: It’s a sneak attack that knocks Zoe Washburne down, ropes her wrists, and shampoos her hair.
Why: Obviously the lure of seeing Zoe forcibly given a makeover was a draw in reading this story, however, it wasn't all there was to it. This is a story about moving on and creating a home, and I liked the way that the author showed the crew doing that, each in his or her own way.

Summary: "Guilt won't kill a man, but sure'n it'll make him sweat a lot."
Why: This is a great snippet of everyday life on the Serenity. I love the Wash voice, which is spectacularly spot on. Also, even though Zoe is only actually in the story at the end, I like the way her presence runs throughout.

Summary: In which Mal unbuilds some walls; Jayne learns to kiss on the mouth; and nobody gets left behind.
Why: I was feeling a little depressed this afternoon, so to be entirely truthful, I almost clicked the back button as soon as I started reading this. My (admittedly limited) experience with Jayne/Mal fic has always indicated something hot but slightly depressing, and I really wasn't in the mood for that. However, something made me keep reading past that initial dread of angst, and I'm so glad I did. This story did a wonderful job of drawing me in and then keeping me there until the end. It also wasn't nearly as dark as I had been expecting. Instead, it was perfect. There was angst where there needed to be angst, but there was also a lot of sweetness and a lot of laughs along the way. I loved the way that the author wrote all the characters and their relationships. In short, completely contrary to my expectations, this story was exactly what I needed (and wanted!) to read.

Summary: My love, though silly, is more brave.
Why: If Wash and Zoe give you a warm fuzzy feeling when they're together (or even if they don't), you should totally read this. Set pre-series, this story is an adorable take on the beginnings of Wash and Zoe's relationship. Another addition to my own personal canon.

Summary: Zoë says, "This is business, not personal."
Why: OK, so first of all, this story is hot. Second, I love the way that Puritybrown writes Zoë. The events of Serenity are recent, and seeing Zoë's emotions this way is a poignant reminder of what she had, what she lost, and what she still has. A beautiful story.
