Summary: Hermione is determined to make people listen to her - even if she has to pretend to be psychic to do it.
Why: I've been all for Hermione-centric fic lately, and this is a product of that obsession. If you are a fan of both the Psych and Harry Potter fandoms, then this might be a good fic for you. I don't know that it would stand alone as well if you're not familiar with Psych though, so reader be warned.

Of course, you could read it just for Hermione, who is pretty lovely. I really liked her in this, taking action and doing things that she wasn't sure she could. I also liked the occasional outside perspective of her that the story gives us through the eyes of the Psych characters. And even though it's 9 chapters long, the story goes quickly, buoyed by good character interactions and the development of the plot.

Summary: EWE. Dumbledore’s portrait exposes yet another secret complication that will screw up Harry’s life. He’s really getting tired of those.
Why: I was originally drawn into reading this because of the idea. The story starts with Harry being told that he has veela blood, and as we all know, that means that he needs to find his mate. Yes, you can see where this is going, and it's pretty cliche. But here's the twist. Draco charges Harry money for every touch. Somehow, that idea just struck me as so Draco and so full of potential that I couldn't help but read it. And I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. Harry's reactions to the entire situation rang really true to his character. There's lots of snark, a good bit of angst, and Harry shows his fighting spirit in a properly Gryffindor fashion. This story was a great reminder to me of just why I like the Harry/Draco pairing as much as I do.

High Priced by Cheryl Dyson

There is also a companion story, High Priced, the Malfoy edition that tells the story from Draco's point of view. I didn't enjoy it as much as the original, probably because I already knew what was coming, but if you're not quite ready for the story to end, you might enjoy reading this.

Rating: PG-13

Summary: House is in England for a conference when he is suddenly struck down by something with no mundane explanation. Will Snape and his band of ducklings manage to uncover the secret behind House's illness before House uncovers their own?
Why: Part of the reason that I like crossovers is that they give you the ability to see interactions between characters who would otherwise never meet. In this case, I really liked the battle between Hermione and House as she tries to treat him without revealing herself as a witch. Draco and Wilson's interactions came as a close second; Draco's set up as a bit of a ditz in this story, but it's the kind of ditz that I just couldn't help but laugh at. There are also some really wonderful parallels set up here. I loved the idea of Snape having Hermione, Draco, and Harry as his ducklings, with Remus playing the role of Wilson. In short, if you're looking for a light and snarky way to fill some time, this is the perfect story for you.

Summary: A fool and his money are soon parted.
Why: Interesting that I should have two recs involving voyeurism in a row. Probably says something about me...

Anyway. This is just such a cute idea that I couldn't resist reading it when I saw it recced (I believe at crack_broom, although I'm not sure now). Two mysterious someones are taking bets on how the Trio will sort themselves out romantically, with the assumption that no one will be able to guess and so they'll be able to keep the money for themselves. The scenes that follow are various bets that various people make, with a graphic demonstration of why in each case. I loved how people kept stumbling over the three of them in various permutations and seeing how these different people reacted to the experience. Even better, however, was how everything worked out in the end. I'm such a sucker for a good ending. ♥

Summary: Harry finds his place in the postwar world.
Why: I'm not quite sure why I like the Harry/Ron/Hermione pairing as much as I do; I'm largely indifferent to other permutations such as Harry/Hermione, Harry/Ron, and Hermione/Ron. Somehow, though, I just love the trio together, and I doubt that anyone could do them better than Resonant. She really has a great grasp on the characters of all three of them, as well as a knack for balancing them. No one character overwhelms the others.

I also really like the situation that Resonant has devised for this particular story. It's one that really strikes home for me and thus did a great job of helping me to empathize with Harry. In addition, the way that Resonant doesn't explain everything that happens, but rather lets her readers put things together on their own was really nice. Just enough detail to get an idea what might happen, but enough room to add on your own imaginative touches. It's really easy to see why this is considered a classic of Harry/Ron/Hermione fanfiction.

Bed and Board by Resonant

Bed and Board also has two sequels: Fair, rated NC-17 and Paternity, rated G. If you liked Bed and Board, you should definitely take a look.
