Fandom: Harry Potter/Psych crossover
Pairings/Characters: Hermione, Shawn, Gus
Rating: PG-13
Author: scifichick774
Website: Fic archive
Summary: Hermione is determined to make people listen to her - even if she has to pretend to be psychic to do it.
Why: I've been all for Hermione-centric fic lately, and this is a product of that obsession. If you are a fan of both the Psych and Harry Potter fandoms, then this might be a good fic for you. I don't know that it would stand alone as well if you're not familiar with Psych though, so reader be warned.

Of course, you could read it just for Hermione, who is pretty lovely. I really liked her in this, taking action and doing things that she wasn't sure she could. I also liked the occasional outside perspective of her that the story gives us through the eyes of the Psych characters. And even though it's 9 chapters long, the story goes quickly, buoyed by good character interactions and the development of the plot.

Author: Roga
Website: Roga on Ff.net
Summary: Where Chase meets his American cousin and New Jersey is surreptitiously mocked.
Why: Welcome to Awesome Ideas 101, where it turns out that Cordy and Chase are actually cousins and become friends. I loved seeing these two characters interact and take part in each other's lives. (Seriously, don't even try to tell me that the idea of Cordelia meeting House is not epic.) Also, the ending of this kind of killed me, in that way that awesome fic has a tendency of doing. Funny in some places and melancholy in others, this is a wonderful story for both Cordy and Chase.

Summary: Domyouji has other friends, really.
Why: How could you not love the idea of this? Doumyouji Tsukasa and Mimura Takuya meeting and becoming kind-of-sort-of friends but not really because all Doumyouji wants to do is prove that he has other friends. And both of them are perfectly characterized and you just can't help but laugh at the way things turn out because knowing both of them, that's exactly what would happen.

Website: the melancholy of Kihin Ranno
Summary: Remus is tapped to investigate a magical girl in London and finds himself ensnared in a world full of demons, a secret war, and the life of a rather hyperactive thirteen-year-old Aino Minako.
Why: Argh, I love this crossover. The author does an amazing job of mixing the two fandoms and keeping it accurate to canon. This is set during Sailor V's days in London, when Remus Lupin is sent to investigate both her and the strange dark creatures that she battles. The relationship between Minako and Remus, which seems so unlikely at first glance, is done extremely well. I also found this interesting because it addresses a period of that, as someone who doesn't actively seek out Sailor Venus fic, was completely new to me. Add in top-notch characterization of both Minako and Remus, and you have a first-rate crossover that I highly recommend.

Author: waxrose
Website: cleversweet.com
Summary: When Koichi stops by the window counter to refill a couple's water glasses, he notices that the lawyer is back again, sliding into his usual seat in the middle of the busy main counter.
Why: I'll admit it. I'm a crossover fiend, and the idea of Ariake Koichi and Naruse Ryou meeting rings of cosmic fate to me, and not just because it's AU Ohmiya. Koichi and Naruse have a lot in common, a fact that waxrose skillfully points out. Both lost their families, both are out for murder, both feel alone, so there was definitely something magical about seeing them connect for me. Also, I kind of loved the way that waxrose fit things into the cracks between canon and made them work (and given the ending of Maou, broke my heart all over again).

Summary: Sam is hurt, Dean worries and lies, Cox rants, and JD just wants everyone to love him, especially after the vampires show up.
Why: If the Scrubs and Supernatural universes were ever going to meet, I think this is how it would happen. I like the author's JD voice a lot, even though it's slightly toned down on his usual imaginings. I also liked the way that she handled the outsider perspective of Sam and Dean, which is always something I like to see. The action scenes are also very well-done, which I always appreciate.

Summary: House is in England for a conference when he is suddenly struck down by something with no mundane explanation. Will Snape and his band of ducklings manage to uncover the secret behind House's illness before House uncovers their own?
Why: Part of the reason that I like crossovers is that they give you the ability to see interactions between characters who would otherwise never meet. In this case, I really liked the battle between Hermione and House as she tries to treat him without revealing herself as a witch. Draco and Wilson's interactions came as a close second; Draco's set up as a bit of a ditz in this story, but it's the kind of ditz that I just couldn't help but laugh at. There are also some really wonderful parallels set up here. I loved the idea of Snape having Hermione, Draco, and Harry as his ducklings, with Remus playing the role of Wilson. In short, if you're looking for a light and snarky way to fill some time, this is the perfect story for you.

Summary: With his human life now centuries distant, Kurama finds a new home withthe one crew in the 'verse that attracts as much trouble as Yuusuke.
Why: I stumbled on this when I was in the midst of my Yu Yu Hakusho kick. Obviously it's a crossover that you would never expect to find, but it's one that the author really makes work well. I think that my favorite part of this story was the connection between Kurama and River. I didn't expect it, but AngelsFall makes it work beautifully. I also really enjoyed the ending to this story: a little bittersweet, but perfect nonetheless.

Summary: Like any doctor, House had become familiar with the phenomenon ofbeing shaken awake in the early hours of the morning. That shaking was usually accompanied by a cup of coffee however, not an automatic pistol.
Why: Yup, another weird crossover. I really do like these things, especially when the character voices are just so right on, as they are here. I'll also admit that I get some perverse pleasure at House's befuddlement over Crawford the precog. It's nice to see that there are some things that House doesn't get. ;)

Summary: Hikaru and Touya attend a school for gifted youngsters to train them for an alien invasion. A school on a space station.
Why: I know. It's a really odd crossover at first glance. Hikaru and company at Battle School? Weird. However, the author does a great job of linking the two fandoms. I really bought the characterizations of everyone, and it felt like they all just slid seamless into the Ender's Game universe.

(And how great is it that something interesting happens at the clinic and House misses it all? :D)

Summary: Chase gets abducted by space cowboys!
Why: This is such a great crossover. Roga does an amazing job of writing both worlds. On the one hand, she puts Chase in a believable place emotionally, not to mention gets the characterization perfect, making me overflow with Chase-love. On the other hand, she uses perfectly chosen allusions to absolutely nail the Firefly cast. I loved watching the Chase interact with all of them and just seeing Chase as the main character in something when he so often seems to be regulated to the back. Roga also does a great job of framing everything that happens within the episode and making it mean more than just Chase's random space adventure. I give it a billion stars!

Spoilers for: up to early season 3 for BSG
Author: thedeadparrot
Website: Nightvision
Summary: They were on their way to a medical conference when the Cylons hit.
Why: This is a fusion which places House and Wilson in the universe of Battlestar Galactica. Personally, I'm not overly familiar with BSG. I watched the original, and I watched the very beginning of the 2003 version before stopping for reasons unknown. I haven't yet started back up, although it's on my list. However, despite my lack of BSG knowledge, I really enjoyed these fics. The author does a great job of capturing the aura of BSG while still keeping House and Wilson as the characters we know and love. It makes for a seamless crossover and an engrossing read that says a lot about the nature of the relationship between House and Wilson.

Summary: Mal comes back from his sale with platinum in his pocket and a pair of dirty stragglers tagging along behind him like lost dogs.
Why: This is a fusion crossover, where the author takes Sam and Dean and transplants them into the Firefly universe, and although you might not think it would work, it really, really does. In fact, it works so well that I'm currently halfway convinced that this Sam and Dean must be wandering around the Firefly universe right now, just waiting to meet up with the crew of Serenity. Subterrain also drew some really interesting parallels between the characters that I absolutely loved, and I have to say that even though I'm not particularly a fan of River/Simon, it worked amazingly well here.

Why: My first thought upon really watching Scrubs and meeting Dr. Cox was something along the lines of, "OMG, it's House!" So when I saw a crossover of the two fandoms, I couldn't resist. And oh, man, it's amazing. My face hurt by the time I finished reading this because I had been beaming for so long. The authors do a brilliant job with the characterizations, and I loved the face-offs between House and Cox, as well the conclusion that House comes to. Over all, I found this story to be absolutely hilarious.

Summary: Joey is accused of murdering a high ranking Las Vegas businessman, and his alibi can't be confirmed. There's only one thing that can clear his name... the evidence.
Why: First, a caveat. I don't watch CSI. I've seen random snippets, I know the basic idea, I even have a rough idea of who some of the characters might be, but I don't claim to have any real knowledge of the series. In other words, I can't say that the characterization for the CSI characters is good; I honestly don't know. However, I certainly didn't find anything wrong with the story from the Yugioh side of things. It's not often in the Yugioh fandom where plot is the point rather than pairings, but this is an example of that rare beast: the Yugioh gen fic. The author does a great job of creating a mystery and then drawing it out to an interesting conclusion. The Yugioh characterization is very much in line with what we see in the dub. I also have to comment that I really enjoyed the interactions between the two universes, even though I can't guarantee accuracy. In all, I found this to be an enjoyable read, well worth the time that it took to get through.

Summary: Hikaru must get stronger if he wants to keep Akira as his rival. After all, a jounin can't have a genin as his rival.
Why: When I first saw this, I had to click just out of sheer curiosity. A Hikaru no Go and Naruto crossover? How in the world does that work? Well, it works pretty nicely, to tell the truth. Rather than a crossover, I would actually call this a fusion. It takes Hikaru and Akira and puts them into the setting of Naruto. I liked this because of the way that it transposes the characters and circumstances of Hikaru no Go into Naruto's terms. The story isn't long, but it's very nicely done. If you're a fan of both series, like me, think for a second about Akira and Hikaru as ninja, and then click the link.

Summary: Tentacles. Why did it have to be tentacles?
Why: If you've ever wondered what Dean and Angel would think of each other if they should happen to meet, well, here's your chance to find out. In this story, Dean and Angel battle a demon together and then are trapped by a cave-in, which is the perfect opportunity for some drama and some bonding and just a generally good fic. This story is well-written and absorbing; it's fairly lengthy but it certainly doesn't feel that way while you're reading it. I really enjoyed the interactions between Dean and Angel, and I like to think that, should we ever step into an alternate universe and a canonical Angel/Supernatural crossover comes into existence, this is what it would be like.

Summary: House ends up with a very interesting patient, much to his amusement and his staff's lament. But honestly, how does one diagnose a vampire?
Why: Yes, it's another House crossover. Did I ever mention that I have a bit of an obsessive nature? However, this should be the last one for a little while at least, so bear with me. I liked this story for one simple reason. It amused me. It's not meant to be a serious fic, but that's a strength rather than a weakness. This is the kind of story that should be read when you're in the mood for some lighthearted fun with characters that you love. (Just a warning: There is a bit of Angel bashing, but I wasn't particularly bothered. However, hardcore Angel fans might want to beware.)
