Summary: The present revolves around the past; truth and remembrance are two different things. After the well closes forever,Kagome finds a familiar face in the present era.
Why: This isn't a happy story, and it isn't what I would hope for the characters, if everything were to go the way I want it to. However, it is a story that I can believe. Resmiranda does an amazing job of putting the characters through the wringer and making it a story that you want to read, just to find out how everything's going to end up. This is a darkly captivating view of life after Naraku that will really make you think about what it means to be a survivor.

Summary: How to win at losing.
Why: Resmiranda does such a good job at writing the Sesshoumaru/Kagome pairing and doing it in a way that I can find plausible. In less than 4,000 words, she manages to shape a relationship and fill in the blanks from the past, a feat that other authors struggle with when using far more words. In this case, she does it by interspersing the present with snippets of the past. It's a style that can be jarring if done the wrong way, but when it's done the right way, as it is here, it flows seamlessly together until time becomes almost irrelevant. This story really is beautiful. Now, don't get me wrong. Although the story focuses on the relationship between Sesshoumaru and Kagome, it is not your traditional romance. Resmiranda tends toward the darker themes of relationships and although this one felt less depressing than others have been, it is still not a happy story. However, I enjoyed this version of Sesshoumaru a great deal, changed by time but still recognizably himself, and as always, Resmiranda's Kagome is superb. If you've never read anything by Resmiranda before and want a nonintensive introduction, this would be a very good place to start.
