Summary: The first thing that Dean noticed, when he woke up, was the twinge in his knee. Which was weird, considering that Sam was the one who always fucked up his knees.
Why: I really should read more in the Supernatural fandom. You see, I love stories like this one. And I love them even more when they're so well done. [livejournal.com profile] monkiedude includes some really lovely details about Sam and Dean that make the entire bodyswap concept work well. It's not a long story, but it's one that satisfies nonetheless.

And while you're at it, I'd definitely recommend [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon's companion piece, Flip It Back Over, which takes things from Sam's point of view.

Summary: Dean finally gets his just desserts for his womanizing ways. What exactly is going on in that Salem church?
Why: Ah, the genderfuck. A common concept in Supernatural. I think fandom's just waiting for something of the sort to happen in the actual series. Until then, though, we have fanfiction.

In "Man, I Feel Like a Woman," Dean is the brother to be hit by the genderfuck, and in "Bloodstones and Kisses," it's Sam. The fun of these stories is watching how each reacts to the transformation. [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing really does a wonderful job of keeping the boys in character and pulling out a few lines that feel like they could have been taken directly from the show. These two stories are really just a lot of fun.

Oh, and if the incest isn't your thing, you should still be fine reading "Man, I Feel Like a Woman." As the author says, "Borderline incestuous, but subtle enough (hopefully) that you can choose to ignore it if you wish."

Summary: The hiring of the Ducklings, through Chase's point of view.
Why: I just finished watching Season 1 of House the other day, so this story came at the perfect time for me. I really love the Chase perspective as he's rapidly become my favorite character. Sam the Storyteller really nails his voice. The other characters, as well, are perfectly on. I also really enjoyed the take on just what happened to lead up to each person getting hired and the glimpse of what House might have been thinking at the time. This really feels like it could fit into canon without a glitch.

Summary: Tenten, Lee, and Neji start out like most teammates; over years of teamwork, bonds are made and bonds are tested—it is the life of a shinobi.
Why: A friend of mine threw this story at me the other day with the convincing note of "It's amazing." A day or so later, when I finally got around to reading it, I found that she had been absolutely right. The story is written from Tenten's perspective, which in some circumstances could be awkward considering how little we actually know about her. Yet Erisabesu pulls it off without a flaw. Her portrayals of Neji and Lee, as well, were really top-notch. I think that what I liked best, though, was that none of the characters was portrayed as perfect, but no one was portrayed as less than the other two either. Lee, Neji, and Tenten were very much equals. Seeing the other teams through Tenten's eyes was very interesting as well. However, my favorite part was definitely the ending, which is beautifully understated and doesn't fall into the trap of too much melodrama. Really, this story made me all kinds of happy.

Pairings/Characters: Tezuka/Ryoma, Fuji/Ryoma
Rating: M
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sparklespiff

Summary: Ryoma is a huge dork. Tezuka is too. Fuji is cooler than both of them put together, but that's not saying much. Involves tennis, minor stalking, and awkward boyfumbling.
Why: I don't even know what to say about this one. I started reading partly because I've liked [livejournal.com profile] sparklespiff's work before and mostly just out of plain old curiosity. I kept reading because I was having too much fun to even think about stopping. And I'm reccing this because it is all kinds of love. I love Ryoma and his confusion over the way that he's suddenly noticing things that he's never noticed before. I love Fuji, being his usual all-knowing self. I love Inui and his endless quest of data. I love Tezuka in all his geeky glory. If Tezuka/Ryoma was always written like this, the pairing would have a diehard fan in me. ^^
