Summary: Hikaru must get stronger if he wants to keep Akira as his rival. After all, a jounin can't have a genin as his rival.
Why: When I first saw this, I had to click just out of sheer curiosity. A Hikaru no Go and Naruto crossover? How in the world does that work? Well, it works pretty nicely, to tell the truth. Rather than a crossover, I would actually call this a fusion. It takes Hikaru and Akira and puts them into the setting of Naruto. I liked this because of the way that it transposes the characters and circumstances of Hikaru no Go into Naruto's terms. The story isn't long, but it's very nicely done. If you're a fan of both series, like me, think for a second about Akira and Hikaru as ninja, and then click the link.

Summary: An unexpected mix-up helps Aziraphale and Crowley learn more about the other.
Why: In which Crowley and Aziraphale switch bodies in a cosmic accident. ...Are you still here or have you already clicked on this? Well, if you're still here, I guess I'll tell you a little more. Not only does the author have the style and characters down, she's clever! Not to mention that there's hot sex! Yes, this story warrants the two exclamation points. I had so much fun snickering my way through this story that I really can't recommend it enough.

Why: I don't think this rec is particularly spoilerific, so I'm not putting it behind a cut. However, if you're paranoid, please don't read this. Seriously.

Ok, so you're reading. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Life goes on after the end of canon, and since my ship was not sunk completely, here's a little something to celebrate that. I was thrilled to see this posted the day after Deathly Hallows came out. This is the story that every Harry/Draco shipper wanted to see. It takes place directly after the epilogue and explains how the relationship between Harry and Draco came to be and what drove Harry and Ginny apart. I was pretty upset about the epilogue when I finished reading, I have to admit, but this story made me feel 100% better about everything.

Summary: Harry comes down with the measles and takes Draco with him.
Why: If the previous rec wasn't enough to please the Harry/Draco shipper in you, this should make you happy. It's been made AU by DH, but it's still a fun read. There is sex, illness, relatively little conflict, Draco at his best, and plenty of other things guaranteed to make you smile. This story reminded me of why I love this pairing, a reminder that I really needed after the long hiatus I've taken on reading Harry Potter fic. Perhaps it could serve the same purpose for you?

Summary: Joey is accused of murdering a high ranking Las Vegas businessman, and his alibi can't be confirmed. There's only one thing that can clear his name... the evidence.
Why: First, a caveat. I don't watch CSI. I've seen random snippets, I know the basic idea, I even have a rough idea of who some of the characters might be, but I don't claim to have any real knowledge of the series. In other words, I can't say that the characterization for the CSI characters is good; I honestly don't know. However, I certainly didn't find anything wrong with the story from the Yugioh side of things. It's not often in the Yugioh fandom where plot is the point rather than pairings, but this is an example of that rare beast: the Yugioh gen fic. The author does a great job of creating a mystery and then drawing it out to an interesting conclusion. The Yugioh characterization is very much in line with what we see in the dub. I also have to comment that I really enjoyed the interactions between the two universes, even though I can't guarantee accuracy. In all, I found this to be an enjoyable read, well worth the time that it took to get through.

Summary: Hojo becomes trapped in the Sengoku Jidai: Chivalry isn't dead, but it sure seems to be asking for it...
Why: I think that I'm like a lot of people when I say that I've always been vaguely amused by, but largely uninterested in, Hojo. He's a sweet kid, but really rather boring. Well, until you stick him in the Sengoku Jidai, and trap him there indefinitely. Then the fun begins. Watching Hojo and his modern ideas face off against the Sengoku Jidai is quite a ride. Ill feelings and misunderstandings abound as Hojo meets the past and its inhabitants. Yes, this story had me snickering to myself throughout.

Don't let my description fool you, however. This story does have its more serious elements. They may take you by surprise as the story progresses, but they are there. There are a couple plot points that really run throughout the story, including one which helps make the story interesting right to the very end.

Pairings/Characters: Hiei/Kurama
Rating: M
Spoilers for: anime eps 1-25, manga vol 1-4
Author: [livejournal.com profile] tallihensia
Website: The Alatri Nebula
Summary: This story depicts what happened to Kurama and Hiei after Yusuke recovered the three Sacred Objects from them, to the point where they meet up with Yusuke again at the land of the Four Sacred Beasts.
Why: I went through a brief spurt of interest in Yu Yu Hakusho a short while back, and this is one of the stories that I read in that time. I've been subconsciously debating with myself how to phrase my rec ever since. I've also reread the story a couple times, which should tell you how much I like the story. Larissa does a great job of creating a story around the canon we are given in the early part of the series. I really enjoyed reading her explanations of
Kurama and Hiei's pasts and her account of the events that take place between their first encounter with Yusuke and their subsequent joining of the Spirit Detective group.

However, I do feel obligated to warn that some people may not enjoy Hiei's characterization in this story. I'll admit that I was a little thrown by it myself. As the story progressed, though, I found myself, if not entirely convinced, enjoying myself enough that I really didn't care. Honestly, I think that as long as you're willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, you'll find this story a very enjoyable experience.
