Summary: Four times Cordelia stepped in for Princess Kareen as Gregor's mother. In her own inimitable way.
Why: When it comes to the Vorkosigan series, my focus tends to be on Miles and Ivan. Gregor is one of those characters who tends to fall by the wayside with me. That's why I need fics like this, to point out when I'm being stupid and ignoring something amazing. In this case, it's the relationship between Cordelia and Gregor. To make up for my lack of attention, E. E. Beck does an absolutely spectacular job with it in these four scenes. This is one of those stories that has been entered into my personal canon, and if you read it I think you'll find the same happening to you.

Summary: Regret . . . And what if she and Miles had met at twenty, instead of she and Tien? It had been possible; she'd been a student at the Vorbarra District University, he'd been a newly minted officer in and out of the capital. If their paths had crossed, might she have won a less bitter life? - pp. 534, A Civil Campaign
Why: Isn't this an awesome idea? Seriously, I was thrilled with this one, and since it's Sahiya, of course it's well done. I think that my favorite was the last one, but all these are just really great. Sure, I wouldn't trade Ekaterin and Miles's real relationship for the world, but it's still a lot of fun to think of what might have happened if only they had met sooner.

Summary: "I don't imagine I'll get the opportunity to say this very often in my life." Ivan paused. "Gregor, you idiot."
Why: This is a great conversation between Ivan and Gregor set at the end of Warrior's Apprentice. It gives you a little of an idea of what Gregor went through during that book, and it's a great look inside Ivan's head. Also, I liked the interaction between the two of them, and the little hints of a childhood with Miles. Besides, isn't that summary the best motivation to read this story ever?

Summary: Gregor was in a closet. It smelled like Ivan's socks. And it was all Miles's fault.
Why: Sahiya is one of the immensely talented authors of A Deeper Season, the classic Gregor/Miles story, so it probably should come as no surprise that I loved this. Sahiya has some really great comedic timing that had me snickering the entire way through this. I also really loved seeing a younger Miles and Gregor. Oh, and Ivan! I'm always an Ivan fangirl, but I don't think it's bias talking when I say that Ivan is amazing in this story. Not to mention the dialogue; there are so many great lines in this story that I found myself stopping quite a few times just to re-read them and laugh properly. In all, this is a really fun romp that I highly enjoyed.
